ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dita Kraus

She was born in Prague in 1929. She is one of the few survivors whose childhood drawings were miraculously rescued and are on display at the Jewish Museum in Prague. In 1942, when she was 13, she and her parents were deported to Theresienstadt and then to Auschwitz. Subsequently, she and her mother were sent to forced labor in Germany and then to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. After the war, Dita married Otto B. Kraus. They both emigrated to Israel in 1949, where they worked as teachers. They had three children. Since Otto's death in 2000, Dita has lived alone in Netanya. Despite the horrors of the concentration camps, Dita maintained a positive approach to life.
