ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hilary Mantel

Hilary Mantel (Glossop, England, 1952, DBE - September 22, 2022) studied law at the London School of Economics and Sheffield University. He worked as a social worker, lived for five years in Botswana and another four years in Saudi Arabia. He returned to the United Kingdom in the 1980s.

Considered one of the best British writers of today, several of her works have received literary awards. Notable titles include "Eight Months on Ghazzah Street" (1988); and "Fludd" (1989), winner of the... Winifred Holtby Memorial Prizeof Cheltenham Prize and of Southern Arts Literature Prize"A Place of Greater Safety" (1992), winner of Sunday Express Book of the Year; "A Change of Climate" (1994); "An Experiment in Love" (1995), winner of Hawthornden Prize 1996; "The Giant" (1998); "Giving Up the Ghost: A Memoir" (2003); "Learning to Speak: Short Stories" (2003); "Beyond Black" (2005), finalist for Commonwealth Writers' Prize and of Orange Prize for Fiction in 2006; and "Wolf Hall" (2009) which earned him the 2009 Man Booker Prize for Fiction.
