ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ai Weiwei

Ai Weiwei was born in 1957 in Beijing, China. He moved to the United States in the early 1980s, returned to his hometown in 1993, and has lived in Europe since 2015. A defender of human rights and freedom of expression, he is active on social media and his work has gained significant public visibility. His art exhibitions include... Fairytale in Document 12, in Kassel (2007); Sun flower seeds in the museum Tate Modern, in London (2010); Evidence in the museum Martin Gropius Bau, in Berlin (2014); Ai Weiwei in Royal Academy of Art, in London (2015); Maybe, Maybe Not at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem (2017); Ai Weiwei in Porcelain at the museum Sakip Sabanci, in Istanbul (2017-2018); Good Fences Make Good Neighbors, in New York (2017-2018); Source at OCA, in São Paulo (2018); Circa 20:20, in London (2020) and Rapture, at the Cordoaria Nacional, in Lisbon (2021). Among his medium-length documentaries are Human Flow (2017) and Coronation (2020). Currently lives in Alentejo, Portugal.
