Walden is one of the best-known non-fiction books ever written by an American. It details Thoreau''s sojourn in a cabin near Walden Pond, amidst woodland owned by his friend and mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson. Walden was written with expressed seasonal divisions. Thoreau hoped to isolate himself from society in order to gain a more objective understanding of it. Simplicity and self-reliance were Thoreau''s other goals, and the whole project was inspired by Transcendentalist philosophy. This book is full of fascinating musings and reflections. As pertinent and relevant today as it was when it was first written.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Henry David Thoreau

Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) is considered one of the most important American writers.
Essayist, poet, naturalist, researcher, historian, philosopher, and transcendentalist, he is the author of numerous essays, including Civil Disobedience. His thought inspired great figures who changed society, such as Gandhi, Tolstoy, and Martin Luther King, Jr., to whom we owe a more just and free world than the one in which the author lived.
Also considered one of the pioneers of the ecological movement, he always defended contact with Nature, which he advocates in this timeless classic, The Art of Walking.
