Oscar is just skipping school and hanging out at the local skatepark when he suddenly finds himself transported into a world very different to his. In the company of Bronte Mettlestone, Esther, Imogen and Alejandro, ordinary Oscar finds himself on a quest to locate nine separate pieces of a key, held by nine separate people, in order to unlock a complicated spell that had trapped the Elven city of Dun-sorey-lo-vay-lo-hey. If they don't succeed in their quest, on Friday at noon the spell becomes permanent, the Elves will be crushed to death and Oscar will be trapped in this magical world forever. (The account, it should be noted, has been written at the request of Oscar's school's Deputy Head Teacher. She wants to know exactly what Oscar considered more important than coming to school last week.)

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jaclyn Moriarty

Jaclyn Moriarty nasceu em Perth, 1968, e cresceu em Sydney, Austrália, com quatro irmãs e um irmão, e rodeada de histórias. Escreveu o primeiro conto aos sete anos e, apesar da sensação de que não seria a melhor peça literária de todos os tempos, continuou a escrever. Sempre quis ser escritora mas, a par dessa vontade, sempre teve a consciência de que precisava de ter "um emprego a sério". Após muita indecisão, licenciou-se em Inglês e Direito pela Universidade de Sydney, tendo mais tarde completado o Mestrado em Yale e o Doutoramento em Cambridge, ambos na área do Direito. Ainda trabalhou numa firma de advogados, enquanto escrevia os seus romances para jovens e para adultos, até que finalmente decidiu dedicar-se à escrita a tempo inteiro. Recebeu o NSW Premier's Literary Award, o Queensland Literary Award e o Aurealis Award for Fantasy. Livros seus integram a lista dos Boston Globe Honor Books, a lista dos Best Books for Young Adults da American Library Association e a seleção da White Ravens. Adora chocolate, mirtilos, patinar no gelo e dormir.
