ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ma Jian

Ma Jian nasceu em Qingdao, China, em 1953. Trabalhou como aprendiz de relojoeiro, pintor de painéis publicitários e fotojornalista. Aos 30 anos, abandonou o emprego, viajou ao longo de três anos através da China e concluiu o primeiro romance – que levou o governo chinês a proibir os seus futuros trabalhos. Em 1987, Ma Jian trocou Pequim por Hong Kong, e escreveu o romance Beijing Coma sobre os acontecimentos de Tiananmen. Mudou-se para a Alemanha e depois para Londres, onde vive atualmente. Red Dust [Poeira Vermelha], o relato ficcionado das suas viagens pelo interior da China, obteve o prémio de literatura de viagem Thomas Cook. Recebeu também o China Free Culture Prize e o Athens Prize for Literature.
