The Sibyls Mistake recounts the summer adventures of several sets of American visitors to southern Italy. Frank Bones, at the beginning of a one-year sabbatical from the University of California at Berkley, has come to Naples to bask in the beautiful city and to spend the year exploring. As his adventure unfolds, he meets an unusualcast of characters, each with a different story and reason for being there at that particular time.

They have the ordinary adventures of travelers in foreign countries, but also most unusual ones, including being in costume onstage live at the San Carlo Opera and spending time on the volcanic island of Stromboli as it is destroyed by an eruption. They experience great loves and a strange, ritualistic, erotic murder.

Perhaps a now-obese Bacchus is among the mortals again, making life interestingdrawing each character into the story. Willthey survive the mystery that is about to unfold, and how will their lives be changed if they do?

Edward O. Wilson

Edward O. Wilson é um dos mais proeminentes biólogos do mundo. Nasceu em Birmingham, no Alabama, em 1929 e desde cedo se sentiu atraído pelo ambiente natural. Professor emérito da Universidade de Harvard, reside com a mulher em Massachusetts.

Escreveu mais de 30 obras, entre as quais A Criação, A Diversidade da Vida, Cartas a um jovem cientista, A conquista da Terra, O Sentido da Vida Humana e On Human Nature e The Ants, ambas distinguidas com o Prémio Pulitzer.

Entre os mais de cem prémios que recebeu destacam-se a Medalha Nacional das Ciências dos EUA, o Prémio Crafoord (equivalente ao Prémio Nobel) da Real Academia Sueca de Ciências, o Prémio Internacional de Biologia do Japão e, em letras, dois prémios Pulitzer, os prémios Nonino e Serono de Itália e o Prémio Internacional Cosmos do Japão.
