Sense and Sensibility is one of Jane Austen''s most known and loved novels. First published in 1811, this novel was so popular in its time that it sold out the first print and a second one had to be made shortly after. It has been continuously printed ever since. Numerous television series and play adaptations have been based on this novel.

In this story, we meet the Dashwood family. Recently widowed, the mother needs to move with her three young daughters to the cottage of a distant relative. There, young Elinor and Marianne will meet Jennings, a well-meaning but gossipy young man, Colonel Brandon, an older and reserved man, and the dashing young Willoughby to who Marianne falls in love with almost immediately.

"If I could but know his heart, everything would become easy."

Willoughby and Marianne seem to be deeply in love, and her displays of affection forego all sense of decorum, despite her sister''s pleads to "remain sensible." Soon, Willoughby needs to depart the town on business which sends Marianne into sorrow.

How will their story fare? Will Marianne marry Willoughby? Will Elinor be able to put some sense into her sister? Read this edition to find out!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jane Austen

One of the greatest figures in English literature, Jane Austen (1775-1817) marked the transition from Neoclassicism to Romanticism. Even as a child, she wrote novels for her family, some of which were published in... Love and Friendship and Other Early Works (1922). In this author's literary production, two periods are considered: from 1796 to 1798, in which she wrote Sense and Sensibility (Sensitivity and Common Senseand Pride and Prejudice (Pride and Prejudice), published in 1811 and 1813, respectively; and from 1811 onwards, with the writing of Mansfield Park (1814), Emma (1816) and Persuasion (Persuasion, 1818).
