Gary Ferguson é um escritor bestseller premiado, autor de mais de 25 livros sobre natureza e ciência. Nos últimos 20 anos, deu várias palestras nos Estados Unidos sobre o tema da ecologia e dos valores psicológicos da natureza, e escreveu artigos que surgiram em publicações como a Vanity Fair, Orion, The Chicago Tribune e Los Angeles Times.
É membro da National Geographic Lecture Series e fez parte do corpo docente do programa Rainier Writing Workshop MFA, na Pacific Lutheran University. Fundou, juntamente com a mulher, a cientista Mary M. Clare, o projeto Full Ecology, dedicado a restaurar a relação das pessoas com o mundo natural.
