ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Charles Oman

Charles William Chadwick Oman foi um historiador militar britânico do início do século XX. As suas reconstruções das batalhas medievais a partir de relatos fragmentários foram pioneiras, num estilo que é uma mistura revigorante de rigor histórico e tensão narrativa.
Nasceu na Índia em janeiro de 1860, filho de um fazendeiro britânico, e formou-se na Universidade de Oxford, onde estudou com William Stubbs. Em 1881 foi eleito para uma bolsa de estudos na All Souls College, onde permaneceria pelo resto da sua carreira.
Tornou-se membro honorário da New College em 1936 e recebeu os títulos honoríficos de Doctor of Civil Law (Oxford, 1926) e de Doctor of Law (Edimburgo, 1911, e Cambridge, 1927).
Morreu em Oxford, em junho de 1946.
