Walter Scheidel (1966), an Austrian historian, is a professor of history at Stanford University, California.
His main research interests are ancient social and economic history, demography, pre-modern history, and comparative and transdisciplinary approaches to world history.
He is the author and editor of about sixteen books.
He lives in Palo Alto, California.
