Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl (1916-1990) nasceu no País de Gales, filho de pais noruegueses. Durante a II Guerra Mundial foi piloto da RAF (Royal Air Force). Foi casado duas vezes e teve 5 filhos.
Começou a escrever em 1942. O seu primeiro livro para crianças foi "Gremlins" mas as suas obras para crianças mais famosas são Charlie e a Fábrica de Chocolates, Matilda, e James e o Pêssego Gigante.
Teve sucesso como escritor de contos macabros para adultos, com mais de 60 contos, alguns publicados só após a sua morte. The Smoker foi adaptado para um dos episódios de Hitchcock Apresenta e para o filme de Tarantino Quatro Quartos (1995). Fundou a Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity para investigação nos campos da neurologia e hematologia. Em 2008 foi inaugurado o The Roald Dahl Funny Prize: um prémio anual para autores de ficção humorística infantil.
Roald Dahl é um dos escritores mais vendidos do mundo.
O seu aniversário (13 de Setembro) é comemorado em África, no Reino Unido e na América Latina
