ABOUT THE AUTHOR

António Mota

António Mota was born in Baião in 1957 and began teaching in primary education at the age of 18. He published his first book, The Village of FlowersIn 1979, he began a career dedicated primarily to children's and young adult literature, with over one hundred published works. Throughout his career, he has received numerous literary awards, including the Gulbenkian Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature and the Authors' Prize from the Portuguese Authors' Society. Recognized as one of the most important Portuguese authors for children and young adults, his work has been recommended by the National Reading Plan, translated into several languages, and internationally distinguished, including nominations for the ALMA Prize. Always maintaining strong ties to the rural environment where he grew up, his writing portrays the heart of Portugal and seeks to awaken in children the pleasure of reading through simple, human stories that resonate with readers.
