ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jeffrey D. Sachs

Jeffrey David Sachs, born in 1954, is an American economist known for his work as an economic advisor to several governments in Latin America, Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, Asia and Africa.

He currently works as a professor at Columbia University. He proposed shock therapy as a solution to the economic crises affecting Bolivia, Poland and Russia as part of his advisory work.

He is also known for his work in international agencies for poverty reduction, debt cancellation and disease control, especially AIDS, for underdeveloped countries.
