Mikel Santiago nasceu numa aldeia de pescadores em Vizcaya, em 1975. O piano da irmã, que ecoava por toda a casa, cedo despertou nele uma grande curiosidade pela música.
Viveu na Irlanda, onde se inspirou para escrever este romance, e atualmente vive em Amesterdão, onde trabalha no mundo do software. Quando não se encontra entre os computadores, dedica-se a escrever e a tocar guitarra com a sua banda de blues-rock.
