Beatrix Potter

Helen Beatrix Potter nasceu em Londres a 28 de julho de 1866, no seio de uma família da alta burguesia inglesa. Educada de acordo com as rígidas convenções da sociedade vitoriana, não frequentou a escola, tendo sido instruída em casa por precetoras. No entanto, recebeu uma educação esmerada, aprendendo Pintura e História Natural, disciplinas que vieram a revelar-se determinantes no seu percurso.
Apaixonada pela natureza e por animais, Beatrix Potter inspirou-se num coelho de estimação para escrever e ilustrar o seu primeiro livro infantil. Publicada em 1902, O Conto do Pedrito Coelho tornou-se logo um fenómeno de popularidade, vindo a tornar-se um dos grandes clássicos da literatura infantil do século XX. Traduzida em 36 línguas, contabiliza mais de 45 milhões de exemplares vendidos em todo o mundo.
