Jo Baker estudou em Oxford e na Queen's University, em Belfast, onde concluiu o doutoramento sobre a obra da escritora anglo-irlandesa Elizabeth Bowen. Vive em Lancaster com o marido, o dramaturgo Daragh Carville, e os dois filhos. O romance Longbourn – Amor e Coragem, mereceu um excelente acolhimento por parte da crítica e foi considerado um dos melhores livros de 2013 pelo jornal The Guardian.
