Forty short, easy-reading memoirs record events that occurred when the author and his family lived and worked in the Middle East. This was before the days of mobile phones and all forms of communication made possible by the advent of the internet.

 

The stories cover family matters such as travel, language learning, cultural issues, home life, illness and accident. The work stories are about teaching Science and English at secondary level, followed by the production and distribution of Christian films and teaching material in Arabic on video.

 

The events all took place in peaceful Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Cyprus, and also in civil war torn Lebanon when both "peacekeeping" Syrian and "occupation" Israeli armies were also deployed in different parts of the land.

 

The majority of the stories tell of incidents that could be construed to have a supernatural, or God directed, element in them. The reader is left to decide which of the stories recount supernatural incidents or if the events described were just welcome and timely coincidents.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

David Holmes

David Holmes viveu o sonho de qualquer rapaz. Tendo começado como ginasta de competição, foi atirado para as luzes da ribalta de Hollywood quando foi selecionado como duplo infantil para o filme de ficção científica de 1998 Perdidos no Espaço. Dois anos mais tarde, conseguiu o papel de duplo de Daniel Radcliffe na saga Harry Potter, na qual lutou com dragões, explorou mundos subaquáticos e acumulou mais milhas em vassouras do que qualquer outra pessoa no Mundo da Feitiçaria. Em 2009, o mundo de David mudou quando fraturou as vértebras C6 e C7 num terrível acidente, deixando-o paralisado do peito para baixo. Foi durante um período de reflexão intensa e emocional que David se apercebeu de algo importantíssimo: ele não era uma vítima, mas sim um sobrevivente.
Desde então, David já angariou centenas de milhares de libras através do torneio de críquete David Holmes Harry Potter Cricket Cup e é embaixador da Fundação Wings for Life e do Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital de Stanmore. David publicou também artigos no jornal New York Times e já fez discursos perante os membros da família real, tanto no Palácio de Buckingham como no de St. James. Produziu também um documentário nomeado para um BAFTA sobre a sua vida, denominado David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived, e posou para uma fotografia poderosa para a qual se despiu e pegou fogo a si mesmo. David vive em Essex.
