Michael Morpurgo

Michael Morpurgo é um dos autores de literatura infantojuvenil mais aclamado da atualidade. Tem publicadas cerca de cinquenta obras, já traduzidas em doze idiomas. Entre os vários prémios já recebidos, destacam-se o 'Whitbread Children's Novel Award' e o 'Children's Book Award' com «O Reino de Kensuke», livro de estreia de Morpurgo na coleção «Estrela do Mar». Muitos dos seus livros foram já adaptados para cinema e televisão.
O autor vive no condado de Devon, é casado, pai de três filhos e avô. Frequentou a Universidade de Londres e rapidamente começou a lecionar. Após dez anos no ensino decidiu empreender o seu projeto de vida: fundar uma quinta rural que recebesse crianças provenientes das cidades, de modo a estimular o contacto com o campo, o trabalho de equipa e a vida animal. Passados vinte anos, Morpurgo dirige já duas quintas temáticas, em Devon e no País de Gales, planeando já a inauguração de uma terceira. Tendo como patrono a Casa Real Inglesa, as quintas temáticas recebem anualmente mais de duas mil crianças que, durante uma semana no período escolar, podem usufruir da inesquecível experiência de sentir e viver uma saudável temporada no campo.
