ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Don Carpenter

Don Carpenter (1931–1995) nasceu em Berkeley, Califórnia, e cresceu na Costa Oeste. Cumpriu serviço militar na força aérea durante a Guerra da Coreia, ficando sediado em Quioto. De regresso aos EUA, estudou na Universidade de Portland e no San Francisco State College. Fixou-se em Mill Valley, nos arredores de São Francisco, com a mulher e as duas filhas. Integrou-se na comunidade de escritores locais, tornando-se amigo de Evan Connell e Richard Brautigan.
Depois de se estrear na ficção com Chuva Pesada, em 1966, publicou mais nove romances e várias coletâneas de contos. Escreveu também para cinema e televisão, passando grande parte do seu tempo em Hollywood, cujo universo retratou em várias obras. Com problemas de saúde cada vez mais graves, suicidou-se aos 64 anos.
