ABOUT THE AUTHOR

H. P. Blavatsky

Helena P. Blavatsky, Elena Petrovna Blavatskaya, was born in Ekaterinoslav, in the Russian Empire (currently the city of Dnipro, in Ukraine), in 1831, and died in London in 1891. She was responsible for the systematization of modern Theosophy and co-founder of the Theosophical Society.
From an early age he showed a strong character and unusual psychic gifts. After a failed early marriage, he embarked on a long period of traveling the world in search of philosophical, spiritual, and esoteric knowledge.
At a historical moment when religion was being rapidly discredited by the advancement of science and technology, he reaffirmed belief in the spirit, combating the dogmatism and superstition of religious faith and the arrogance of scientific materialism, encouraging independent thought.
Without claiming infallibility in his ideas, he presented the Western world with a synthesis of concepts, techniques, and interpretations from a wide variety of ancient and modern philosophical, scientific, and religious sources, organizing them into a structured, logical, and coherent body of knowledge.
