Mary Oliver, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, celebrates love in her new collection of poems

"If I have any secret stash of poems, anywhere, it might be about love, not anger," Mary Oliver once said in an interview. Finally, in her stunning new collection, Felicity, we can immerse ourselves in Oliver’s love poems. Here, great happiness abounds.

Our most delicate chronicler of physical landscape, Oliver has described her work as loving the world. With Felicity she examines what it means to love another person. She opens our eyes again to the territory within our own hearts; to the wild and to the quiet. In these poems, she describes—with joy—the strangeness and wonder of human connection.

As in Blue Horses, Dog Songs, and A Thousand Mornings, with Felicity Oliver honors love, life, and beauty.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mary Oliver

Mary Oliver (1935 – 2019) was an American poet whose work reflects a deep communion with the natural world.
She was born and raised in Maple Hills Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. He sought refuge from a difficult home in the nearby woods, where he built huts of sticks and grass and wrote poems.
Mary Oliver achieved critical acclaim and gained a wide readership, with her poetry winning several awards, including the Pulitzer.
Her poems focus on the tranquil occurrences of nature: diligent hummingbirds, herons, and inert ponds. Her creativity was stimulated by nature, and Mary Oliver, an avid walker, often sought inspiration on foot. Her poems are filled with images from her daily walks near home.
"A whole life is not long enough for the beauty of this world and the responsibilities of your life."
