James D. Watson

James Dewey Watson (1928-2025) foi um biólogo molecular, geneticista e zoólogo norte-americano, reconhecido mundialmente como um dos principais responsáveis pela descoberta da estrutura em dupla hélice do ADN, em 1953, em colaboração com Francis Crick, Rosalind Franklin e Maurice Wilkins. Esta descoberta revolucionou a biologia moderna e abriu caminho aos grandes avanços da genética e da biotecnologia contemporâneas.
Em 1962, Watson, Crick e Wilkins foram distinguidos com o Prémio Nobel da Medicina e Fisiologia pelo seu contributo decisivo para a compreensão da estrutura molecular dos ácidos nucleicos.
Ao longo da sua carreira, Watson destacou-se também como autor e divulgador científico, tendo publicado obras de referência como Molecular Biologyof the Gene e o célebre A Dupla Hélice, um relato pessoal e marcante sobre a corrida científica à descoberta do ADN.
