Roger Crowley (1951) é um historiador preeminente, especializado nos grandes impérios marítimos europeus. Rigorosas e simples, as suas obras foram bestsellers do New York Times. Foi leitor de Inglês na Universidade de Cambridge e ensinou a mesma língua em Istambul. Viajou muito pela bacia do Mediterrâneo e tem um profundo interesse por esta região e pela sua cultura.
