ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Shirley Hazzard

Shirley Hazzard nasceu na Austrália e desde cedo viajou pelo mundo com os pais, devido aos cargos diplomáticos que estes ocuparam. Aos dezasseis anos, a viver em Hong Kong, foi recrutada pelo Serviço de Informações Britânico, ao serviço do qual, em 1947-48, acompanhou a guerra civil na China. A partir dessa data, viveu na Nova Zelândia e na Europa; nos Estados Unidos, onde desempenhou funções junto do Secretariado das Nações Unidas, em Nova Iorque; e em Itália. Casou-se em 1963 com o escritor Francis Steegmuller, falecido em 1994. Autora de vários romances, contos e ensaios, vive em Nova Iorque, passando longas temporadas em Itália.
