ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Étienne Balibar

Born in 1942, he was a member of the French Communist Party until 1981.
He is currently a professor of political philosophy at the University of Paris-X Nanterre and the University of California.
Among other works, he published Read Capital (with L. Althusser, P. Macherey, J. Rancière and R. Establet, 1965), Five studies of historical material (1974), Les Frontières de la démocratie (1992), Nous, cytoyens d'Europe? Les Frontières, l'État, le peuple (2001).
