ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Charles Perrault

Escritor francês (1628-1703) nasceu em Paris a 13 de janeiro de 1628 e morreu, também em Paris, a 15 de maio de 1703. Filho de um advogado, é no meio de uma burguesia culta que o autor é educado. Fez estudos universitários e iniciou a sua carreira profissional como advogado. Em 1654, a convite de um dos seus irmãos, é nomeado «coletor de finanças» e mais tarde, em 1661, por indicação do ministro Colbert, ministro das Finanças de Luís XIV, é nomeado «inspetor das Obras do Rei». Paralelamente à sua atividade profissional, escreve poesia, frequenta salões literários e escreve obras de circunstância.
