ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Augusto Abelaira

Writer, professor, and journalist, he was born in 1926 in Ançã, Cantanhede. He was a program director at RTP and director of... New HarvestHe made his literary debut with The City of Flowers (1959), where he outlines the profile of a certain segment of Portuguese youth in the post-war period. In Good Intentions (1963), a novel that won the Ricardo Malheiros Prize, continues with the portrayal of the urban petty bourgeoisie. Homeless Among Ruins This earned him the City of Lisbon Prize in 1979. More recently, he published... In this way or that way (1990) and Once Now (1996). This last work earned him the Grand Prize for Fiction, awarded by the Portuguese Writers' Association, in 1997. He died in Lisbon in 2003.
