Lois Lowry is known for her versatility and creativity as a writer, having authored more than 30 books for young people. Born in Hawaii, she has lived in various parts of the United States and also in Japan. She married young and, for a long time, dedicated herself almost exclusively to her family. Only later did she turn to professional writing. She has won, among many other awards, two Newbery Medals for... The Number of Stars and for The Donor.
