In order to more effectively portray postmodern society, Maffesoli introduced the concept of "neo-tribalism." He posits that, as opposed to the modern and rational society, contemporary society is actually nestled within the ordinary facade of everyday life, within ephemeral micro-tribes formed by individuals, and within the emotional resonance, warmth, intimacy, and intense vital instincts that these tribes exude. At this moment and in this place, it is no longer "I" that is of importance, but rather the "we" that seek solace and coexist symbiotically in unity. Our existence is predicated on the presence of others. The tribe represents a collective aspiration of humanity throughout millennia and serves as a means of carrying forward the legacy of the past and navigating towards the future in our current lives.
