George Grossmith (1847-1902) nasceu em Londres. Além de escritor, trabalhou como jornalista para o Times, e teve uma fulgurante carreira de mais de 40 anos como cantor, actor, comediante e compositor. Escreveu três livros, compôs 18 óperas cómicas e cerca de 600 canções e peças para piano. Durante mais de dez anos, andou em digressão artística por toda a Inglaterra e pelos Estados Unidos.
