While vacationing in Italy, young Lucy Honeychurch meets the unconventional George Emerson, challenging her strict Edwardian upbringing. Torn between societal expectations and her desire for true passion, Lucy must choose between a life of security or the possibility of love. A Room with a View is a witty and poignant exploration of self-discovery, class, and romance. This novel examines the conflicts between the heart and social convention, set against the beauty of Florence and the English countryside.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

E. M. Forster

E. M. Forster (1879-1970) is mainly recognized and admired for works such as A Room with a View (1908), Howards End (1910) and Passage to India (1924), and for the controversial posthumous publication of Maurice (1971), a novel that unveils and exalts homosexual love. From his adolescence in Surrey to his studies at King's College and his connection to the Bloomsbury Group, he was soon guided by the belief in the full realization and freedom of man, capable of disarming the hypocrisies of Puritanism and British society at the time. A pacifist and conscientious objector in World War I, he did civic service in the Red Cross and visited Egypt, befriending the poet Konstandinos Kavafis in Alexandria. He was a member of the Union of Ethical Societies and famous for his radio interventions in defense of social reforms and freedom of expression.
