ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Robert Louis Stevenson

Robert Louis Stevenson was born in Edinburgh on November 13, 1850. Studied Law - without that he ever became a lawyer - and, shortly after, falls in love with Fanny Osbourne with who, despite the various tribulations they went through, would get married. Years later he contracted tuberculosis and moved with his wife and stepson to Switzerland, where he lived for a year. He returned to Scotland but the weather only further damaged his health, forcing him to move again, this time to the South of France. The next few years were spent looking for a climate that would not aggravate his illness, until finally, in 1892, he settled with his family in Samoa. It was there that he died on December 3, 1894, victim of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was the author, among others, of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and of Treasure Island, which immortalized him.
