Catherine Barr escreveu o seu primeiro livro sobre evolução depois de ter procurado em vão um livro de ficção sobre o tema. Estudou ecologia, trabalhou com a Greenpeace durante muitos anos na área da vida selvagem, especialmente tartarugas do mar e outras espécies em risco.
