Zé António nasceu em Matosinhos, a 29 de setembro de 1975. Representou o Leixões desde os escalões de formação até ao mais alto nível do futebol nacional e internacional. A carreira e a ligação familiar e simbólica aos leixonenses só foi interrompida durante uma passagem de três anos pelo Desportivo das Aves. Em 2004, terminou o percurso devido a um diagnóstico de esclerose lateral amiotrófica. Vinte anos depois, a sua história é um exemplo de fé e força.
