Yves Lacoste, geógrafo e historiador, é, desde há 25 anos, o instigador da reflexão geopolítica em França. Nascido em Marrocos, onde passou a infância, foi professor em Argel (1952-1955) e participou na luta da independência argelina. Deu à revista de geografia e de geopolítica, que ele dirige desde 1976, o nome do primeiro grande historiador e geógrafo grego, Heródoto, cujas Histórias constituíam já, há 2500 anos, uma geopolítica.
