Yûko Tsushima

Yuko Tsushima nasceu em Tóquio a 30 de março de 1947. A sua carreira literária inicia-se com uma compilação de contos, Shaniku-sai [Carnaval], lançada em 1971, a que se seguiram romances como Choji [Filha da Fortuna], em 1978, Território de Luz, em 1979, ou Yama wo hashiru onna [Mulher Correndo nas Montanhas], em 1980. Com uma obra focada em histórias de quem vive à margem das boas regras sociais, em particular de mulheres solitárias em luta pelo controlo das suas vidas e em confronto com as pressões de uma sociedade japonesa marcadamente patriarcal, Tsushima foi distinguida com alguns dos mais importantes galardões literários do seu país, incluindo o Prémio Literário Izumi Kyoka (1977), o Prémio Kawabata (1983) e o Prémio Tanizaki (1998). Foi considerada pelo jornal americano The New York Times «uma das mais importantes escritoras da sua geração». Morreu em 2016.
