Xavier Velasco nasceu em San Ángel, a sul da Cidade do México, em 1959. Inscreveu-se em dois cursos universitários - Letras e Ciências Políticas -, licenciaturas que não chegou a concluir, tentado pelo vício secreto da escrita. Dedicou-se ao jornalismo, à publicidade e à programação electrónica até conseguir entregar-se inteiramente à literatura. Publicou o ensaio Una banda nombrada Caifanes (1990); o romance Cecília (1994); Luna llena en las rocas.Crónicas de antronautas e licántropos (2000). Com O Diabo que nos guarda, Xavier Velasco recebeu o Prémio Alfaguara de Romance 2003.
