Vera Aleixo nasceu em Termas de Monfortinho, no distrito de Castelo Branco, e foi diagnosticada com diabetes tipo 1 ainda na adolescência. Formada em Serviço Social, é técnica superior de Serviço Social numa unidade da Rede Nacional de Cuidados Continuados Integrados, cujo objetivo passa por prestar cuidados de saúde e de apoio social a pessoas em situação de dependência.

Diabética há quase 30 anos, em 2017 criou no Instagram a página @viveradiabetes_ para ajudar outras pessoas com o mesmo diagnóstico. Aí partilha as suas experiências e reflexões sobre o que é viver com diabetes tipo 1, mas também receitas deliciosas baixas em hidratos de carbono e sem açúcar. Com Todo o Gosto – Viver a Diabetes com receitas low carb é o seu primeiro livro.
