De acordo com o primeiro manuscrito, Ulysses Moore é provavelmente não só um mestre de línguas, linguagens e códigos, mas também um físico mais genial que o próprio Albert Einstein. Ou se calhar é um mentiroso exímio! De qualquer forma, o antigo proprietário da Vivenda Argo era um eremita excêntrico: nunca saía de casa e nunca foi visto pelos habitantes da vizinhança. Foi casado com uma mulher morena e lindíssima, que morreu em circunstâncias ainda por explicar. Diz-se que Ulysses Moore tinha uma cicatriz horrível, que lhe atravessava a cara, mas o seu retrato, em tempos pendurado numa das paredes da Vivenda Argo, desapareceu.
