Tomie dePaola (Connecticut, 1934 – New Hampshire, 2020) é licenciado em Belas-Artes pelo Pratt Institut de Brooklyn, aperfeiçoou a sua formação académica na Califórnia e em São Francisco. Ao longo de quase duas décadas, lecionou arte em várias escolas, até que, no final dos anos 1970, deixou a docência para se dedicar à escrita e à ilustração de livros. A sua primeira publicação enquanto ilustrador data de 1965. Desde então, conta com mais de 260 livros infantis publicados. Entre os reconhecimentos que recebeu, destacam-se as medalhas Caldecott 1976 e Newbery 2000, os prémios Golden Kite 1983 e 1987, Jeremiah Ludington Memorial 2000, Children’s Literature Legacy 2011 e a nomeação para o prémio Christian Andersen 1990. https://www.tomie.com.
