Teresa de Noronha
Teresa de Noronha holds a PhD in Economics and is a full professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve. At that university, she is the director of the PhD Program in Innovation and Territorial Management and was president of the executive committee of the Research Center on Space and Organizations between 2007 and 2015.
Over the past three decades, her research has focused on areas such as changes in the agri-food sector internationally and, in particular, in Portugal, business behaviors in relation to innovation, and development strategies for rural areas and small and medium-sized cities.
With a strong international component in her curriculum, she was a visiting professor at the University of Paris I – Sorbonne, France, Oryol State University, Russia, Ghent University, Belgium, University of Bologna, Italy, and University of Toronto, Canada. Among her multiple research activities are the coordination of several projects with national and European funding, the editing of a dozen international books, as well as the publication of nearly two hundred papers, most of which in scientific journals of recognized international merit. Among her works, the series of three books New European Rurality: Strategies for small firms (2006), Traditional Food Production and Rural Sustainable Development: a European challenge (2009, 2016) and Towns in a Rural World (2013) stand out.
