Stephen C. Meyer é doutorado em Filosofia da Ciência pela Universidade de Cambridge. Antes de assumir as funções de diretor do Centro de Ciência e Cultura do Discovery Institute, dedicou-se à geofísica e ao ensino universitário. Em 2004, desencadeou uma grande controvérsia científica e mediática quando uma revista publicou o seu artigo científico no qual argumentava a favor do desígnio inteligente. Tem marcado presença assídua na televisão e na rádio norte-americanas e tem escrito abundantemente para a imprensa.
