Sombr
Sombr, stage name of Shane Michael Boose, is an American singer, songwriter, and producer born in 2005 in the Lower East Side of New York City. He has become one of the emerging voices of contemporary pop and indie rock, marked by emotional writing, careful production, and an aesthetic that combines youthful sensibility with unexpected artistic maturity.
With a background in classical composition from LaGuardia High School, he began recording music at home, exploring lo-fi sounds and references ranging from alternative pop to atmospheric electronica. His rise gained momentum when songs like "Back to Friends" and "Undressed" began circulating widely on social media and streaming services, revealing an artist capable of combining vulnerability, melody, and popular appeal.
The debut album, I Barely Know Her (2025), represents a turning point in her career. Produced in collaboration with Tony Berg, the album features ten tracks that Sombr wrote entirely, addressing themes of heartbreak, identity, memory, and New York nightlife. Musically, it combines multi-layered vocal harmonies, melancholic guitars, and enveloping keyboards, creating an intimate yet urban atmosphere.
The album achieved international acclaim, even reaching the top 10 in Portugal, and solidified Sombr as a promising new talent in modern pop music. Critics highlighted how the album balances emotional fragility with sophisticated arrangements, showcasing a young artist already possessing his own distinct sonic personality.
Today, Sombr establishes himself as one of the new figures to watch in the pop and indie scene, with the unique characteristic of controlling much of his artistic creation – composing, producing, and shaping his visual aesthetic – and paving the way for a constantly evolving career.
