Sogyal Rinpoche nasceu em 1947, no Tibete. Recebeu desde os seis meses uma educação tradicional tibetana, tendo como tutor Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö, um dos mestres mais reputados do século XX . Após ter concluído a sua formação em Nova Deli e na Universidade de Cambridge, tornou-se tradutor de muitos mestres, antes de começar a lecionar no Ocidente em 1974. Mestre espiritual e conferencista, é também o fundador da Rigpa, uma rede internacional de centros e grupos budistas que abrange mais de quarenta países.
