Sérgio Augusto Vieira da Silva nasceu em Lourenço Marques em 1962. Quis o destino que aportasse a Coimbra e depois a Lisboa. Licenciado em História pela Faculdade de Letras de Lisboa, frequentou o Mestrado em Estudos Africanos para rumar a Louvain-la-Neuve, onde se doutorou em Ciências Políticas. Ao fim de um quarto de século de docência em Relações Internacionais, abraçou em 2009 uma nova área de conhecimento, Estudos de Segurança, onde lecciona diversas disciplinas tais como:
- Metodologia do Trabalho Científico
- Globalização e Segurança
- Políticas de Segurança da União Europeia
- Introdução à Ciência Política e às elações Internacionais
- Geopolítica da Segurança
