Antes de se dedicar a tempo inteiro à escrita, Serena Burdick estudou Escrita Criativa na universidade Sarah Lawrence, Teatro na Academia Americana de Artes Dramáticas e Literatura Inglesa na universidade de Brooklyn. As suas paixões por teatro, escrita, artes visuais e o movimento impressionista combinaram-se para dar origem ao seu primeiro romance, Girl in the afternoon, que venceu em 2017 o International Book Award for Historical Fiction. Inspirado em factos reais, o seu segundo romance, Meninas Sem Nome, foi um sucesso imediato em língua inglesa e está a revelar-se um fenómeno internacional. A escritora vive no Massachusetts com o marido e os dois filhos.
