Nascido a 1 de setembro de 1935, em Shenyang, na China, Seija Ozawa é um dos mais importantes maestros dos nossos tempos. Exerceu funções de diretor musical da Orquestra Sinfónica de Boston durante vinte e nove anos, e foi diretor da Orquestra Sinfónica de Toronto, da Sinfónica de São Francisco, da Orquestra Sinfónica de Chicago, do Festival de Ravinia e da Ópera Estatal de Viena. Com Kazuyoshi Akiyama, formou a Orquestra Saito Kinen e é o diretor do Festival Seiji Ozawa em Matsumoto.
