Sebastião de Magalhães Lima

Sebastião de Magalhães Lima nasceu em Santos (Brasil) a 30 de maio de 1850 e faleceu em Lisboa a 7 de dezembro de 1928. Foi advogado, jornalista, político, escritor, fundador da Liga Portuguesa dos Direitos do Homem e dos jornais "O Século" e "Comércio de Portugal". Republicano, maçon e pioneiro do socialismo português, fez parte da Geração de 70 e dirigiu os periódicos republicanos "A Folha do Povo" e "A Vanguarda".
Em 1909 foi indicado para o Prémio Nobel da Paz e em 1919 foi Grã-Cruz da Ordem Militar da Torre e Espada, do Valor, Lealdade e Mérito. Foi grão-mestre do Grande Oriente Lusitano Unido, com o mais longo mandato na história maçónica portuguesa, de 1907 até 1928.
