Salwa El-Shawan Castelo-Branco

Salwa El-Shawan Castelo-Branco é professora catedrática emérita de Etnomusicologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, fundou e dirigiu o Instituto de Etnomusicologia — Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança NOVA-FCSH (1995 2020). Foi presidente do International Council for Traditional Music (2013 2021). Doutora em Etnomusicologia pela Columbia University (1980), levou a cabo trabalho de terreno e de arquivo em Portugal, Galiza, Egipto e Omã. De entre as suas publicações destacam se: Vozes do Povo. A folclorização em Portugal (coord. com Jorge Freitas Branco, 2003) [Online]; Enciclopédia da Música em Portugal no Século XX (coord., 2010); Music in Portugal and Spain: Experiencing music, expressing culture (com Susana Moreno Fernández, 2019); Transforming Ethnomusicology, 2 vols. (coord. com Beverly Diamond, 2021).
